DOKUDOC: FI(L)M

In 1979, Marko Brecelj joined forces with the poet Ivan Volarič Feo, and together they formed the musical performance duo Zlatni Zubi, touring across Yugoslavia. As a minimalist poetic singer-songwriter performance duo, they gained a cult following among the youth through performances in high schools.
In 1979, some of these performances were filmed by Franci Slak. Unfortunately, the audio recordings were lost in a fire.

The material shot by Franci Slak on a Super 8 mm camera already contains the seeds of experimentation—while some parts of the performances were filmed in a documentary style, others were captured with in-camera editing in mind, using short takes, unusual camera movements, overexposures...

Slak’s footage and the musical score form a new film work that speaks in a unique cinematic and musical language.
