DOKUDOC: The House of Gods

The House of Gods is a documentary that, with rare intimacy and respectful distance, opens a window into the life of a Roma family in Slovenia. Yet this is not a “Roma film” — it is a story for anyone who has ever found themselves caught between the expectations of others and the stirrings of their own heart. Mišo struggles to step into the role of husband and father, while his wife Mirsada carries strong expectations — including those of faith. His mother Vladica searches for solace and hope in a new religion, while his father Janez remains quietly true to himself. Generational and spiritual currents weave through the fabric of daily life, where nothing is spectacular — and yet everything matters. Told through an observational lens, the film refrains from explanation or judgment. In gentle, quiet moments, it invites reflection on coexistence, emotional growth, and the subtle transformations sparked by love, faith, hope, and fear. The House of Gods is a film about the human search for meaning — confined within four walls, yet universally understood.
