Experiment.001. and Tititi

This is a fresh new project that seeks to generate diverse lineups through combinatorial collaborations between individual artists – shaking things up and connecting both musicians and audiences in Maribor and the surrounding areas. The model is simple: by invitation, a selected group of musicians comes together to create a fusion of electroacoustic music. The openness of the form allows freedom in both performance and listening, challenging and disrupting discourses about the countless (old and contemporary) “rules” of music.

At the very first, premiere edition of the project, we will be joined by three veteran creators(!) – seasoned musicians from different backgrounds, each bringing their own sonic landscapes:

Asja Grauf (whistles, flute) • Nina Farič – Kikiriki (noise music artist & DJ) • Špela Huzjak (violin, vocals, electronic effects)

After this improvised introduction, the evening continues with TiTiTi – “the trio of four” – a jazz improvisation (trio?) in its best quartet lineup. The Drašler brothers lay the rhythmic foundations: Jošt Drašler (double bass), Vid Drašler (drums), with Jure Boršič blowing through alto saxophone and clarinet like a Primorska bora wind, and pianist Marina Džukljev providing the rounded sonic depth that completes the ensemble.

The history of TiTiTi echoes fusion, free improvisation, free jazz, and the broad label of “contemporary music,” but it is only in combination with the equally multi-thinking, multi-sensing Serbian pianist Marina Džukljev that their tireless search for musical and sonic meaning comes fully into focus – somewhere between improvised tradition and unrestrained freedom.

To top it off, both of these musical explorations will be accompanied by live VJ projections from our very own “house” veteran VXVX – making it clear that this opening of the new VAKUM half-season brings not one but two full-bodied musical experiences.

27% jazz • 26% improvisation • 23% chaos • 16% DIY • 8% luck
