Lakecia Benjamin is one of the leading figures in contemporary jazz. This year, she received two Grammy nominations—for Best Instrumental Album and Best Jazz Performance—bringing her total to five nominations to date. She has built her career as a saxophonist, collaborating with artists such as Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Macy Gray, The Roots, and Gregory Porter. Her solo albums, including Rise Up (2018), Pursuance (2020), and Phoenix (2023), have received critical acclaim and established her position on the global jazz scene. Phoenix earned praise from prominent music outlets like The New York Times, The Guardian, and DownBeat, and she was named Alto Saxophonist of the Year by the Jazz Journalists Association. Her music blends elements of classic jazz, funk, hip-hop, and contemporary socially engaged poetry, delivering energetic and compelling live performances.
