Vollmaier: Kind of Laibach

Sašo Vollmaier transforms the “industrial” monolithic sound structure of Laibach into piano music without the use of prepared piano techniques or electronic interventions. He draws inspiration from the virtuosity of Glenn Gould, Vladimir Horowitz, and his teacher Aci Bertoncelj, who was also a former collaborator of Laibach. He remains faithful to the original music by exploring the extreme limits of both performer and instrument. Vollmaier breaks down the linear rigidity of Laibach’s music with precision and physical endurance, creating a result that is even more monolithic yet at the same time subtle — a sound structure shaped solely by the piano.
