RESISTANCE PUPPETRY
Puppets have long served as instruments of social critique. When a man brings a puppet to life on stage, he can express rebellion from behind its facade. The documentary "Resistance Puppetry" delves into how modern puppeteers use their craft to influence public awareness. They advocate for social justice, expose injustices, and employ a wide array of artistic and puppetry techniques to do so. These rebel performers are united by a deep love for puppets. In "Resistance Puppetry," we followed young minority puppeteers in South Carinthia, Austrian puppetry star Nikolaus Habjan and his mentor Neville Tranter to Vienna and Graz, and Slovenian avant-garde artist Matija Solcet to Prague, the Slovenian Karst, and Charleville, the European capital of puppetry—where we encountered other luminaries of rebel puppetry.
