DOKUDOC: PEACEMAKER

In 1991, Josip Reihl Kir, head of the Osijek Police Administration and a man devoted to negotiation and efforts to prevent war, was assassinated on the outskirts of Tenja. The Peacemaker tells the story of the final months of his life, in the period leading up to the outbreak of the bloody Croatian–Serbian war, which Kir did everything in his power to prevent.

The story is told through the testimonies of several eyewitnesses and archival footage from the time. More than 30 years later, many aspects of the assassination remain unexplained, and its possible masterminds have never been identified.

Director Ivan Ramljak is one of Croatia’s leading documentary filmmakers, known for his distinctive approach to exploring historical subjects.
