FILM IN MINORITI: Novi sošolci

Due to a shortage of domestic labor, the Slovenian economy relies on foreign workers. Along with them, their children also arrive in Slovenia, enrolling in primary schools as complete beginners in the Slovenian language. Among immigrants from the former Yugoslav republics, those from Kosovo have the poorest academic performance, as their non-Slavic background presents the greatest language barriers. The documentary sheds light on the background of immigration from Kosovo and the challenges faced by four children and their parents as they integrate into their new environment. It explores the obstacles they encounter due to their ethnic background, language difficulties, and lower levels of education while also revealing the broader causes of migration and the specificities of Kosovo’s education system.
