Film in Minoriti: The Eternal Memory
Augusto Góngora, a veteran Chilean journalist and important chronicler of Pinochet's crimes, and Paulina Urrutia, actress, activist and politician, have been in a close and loving relationship for more than 20 years. Augusto was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease eight years ago and since then the couple have been coping together with the relentless and accelerating decline of his physical and mental strength.
I am interested in the normalisation of physical change and age, the search for beauty in fragility, and the exploration of finitude and death. It is the passing of time. Nobody taught us how to grow old and die, but I want to observe this process, to accept it as normal. Perhaps my film will bring comfort to someone who is struggling with fears about death and old age.
