Lent Festival: Marko Črnčec trio

Marko Črnčec is one of the most renowned contemporary Slovenian musicians. He is known internationally as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and producer, especially in jazz and popular music.
During his studies, he received numerous awards at national and international competitions. After completing his studies in classical piano at the Maribor Conservatory of Music and Ballet, he graduated with honors and special mention from the Jazz Department of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz in 2009. Last year (2025), he also became a master of classical composition at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. Since 2021, he has been a professor of jazz improvisation at the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt, and since 2024, a professor of jazz piano at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana.
He has released seven original CDs with rave reviews, which places him among the most creative and productive musicians in Slovenian jazz. His album Devotion (2014, Whirlwind Recordings) is the largest jazz publication All About Jazz ranked among the 20 best jazz albums in the world in 2014. This put Črnčec in the company of jazz elite such as Brian Blade, Tigran Hamasyan, Ambrose Akinmusire, Jason Moran and others.

He has performed at major festivals and stages around the world, to name the most important places: Bangkok, Havana, New York, Nagoya, Brussels, Munich, Vienna, Sarajevo, Belgrade, Barcelona, Ohrid, Niš, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Rome, Paris, Los Angeles...
With his new trio, which also includes excellent internationally renowned musicians Josh Ginsburg and Kristijan Krajnčan, he presents a new CD No words, which was released by ZKP RTV Slovenia and features a reworking of the evergreen melodies of the legendary Mojmir Sepe.
