Manu Katché »the scOpe« (FRA)
One of the best drummers of all time is coming to Maribor! Joining him will be his band The ScOpe, who have been at his side since 2018 and together they exceeded all expectations. The fusion of rock, rock, soul, reggae, and even pop music, naturally with a jazzy air, proves that Katché is not only drummer extraordinaire, but also one of the best contemporary music authors. While his latest albums (and live gigs) featured primarily jazz line-ups, at Festival Lent he’s about to show us the face we remember so well from the pop-rock world! Drums, often inspired by African music, are the centerpiece of each and every song and truly highlight his mastery, all while promising an unforgettable party that pulls the audience right into the middle of the action on stage.
In the mid-1980’s, Manu Katché made a literal meteoric rise into the highest musical spheres with his contribution to Peter Gabriel’s immensely successful album So and with his drumming on Sting’s albums Nothing Like the Sun and The Soul Cages – his layover in Maribor is coming on the heels of a more than monthlong tour with Peter Gabriel. As one of the leading drummers on the pop and rock scene, Katché has played with the band Afro Celt Sound System, guitar masters Jeff Beck and Al Di Meola, Dire Straits, saxophonist Jan Garbarek, as well with as artists such as Manu Chao, Youssou N'Dour, Joe Satriani, Tracy Chapman, and many more. Highly recommended!
