Piazzolleky Tango Orquesta

Tango, a musical and dance phenomenon born from the cultural fusion in the ports of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, first appeared in Maribor before the First World War, when it was brought to our region from northern Graz and Vienna. The dance of humble people was initially accompanied by modest musical ensembles of two or three musicians. Through development, popularization and the need for a "bigger" sound, these grew to the point that we can begin to talk about the Orquesta Típica, consisting of two to four bandoneons and violins, piano and double bass. The Piazzolleky Quintet, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary of continuous activity next yeara, in his early days he only played with the works of Astor Piazzolla, hence the name, but then he discovered the treasure trove of traditional Argentine tango and devoted all his attention to it. This is reflected in the numerous milongas he has performed and two CDs dedicated to this genre. For several years now, however, their main desire has been expand the quintet into a typical orchestra.
After more than a hundred years, a new chapter in tango history will be written in Maribor, when members of the Piazzolleky Quintet with the combined forces of musicians from Slovenia, Italy and – let history repeat itself – Graz and Vienna premiered in the band that ruled the dance floors of Buenos Aires during the golden age of this mysterious dance.
