The Shroud Maker
Monodrama

In the monodrama The Shroud Maker, we hear the first-person testimony of Mrs. Suad, an eighty-year-old resident of Gaza who may no longer be alive today. In 2014, Ahmed Masud, a Palestinian writer and playwright, and professor of English literature at a London university, wrote a play about her. And thus Hajji Suad – Mrs. Suad, as he called her – also became fiction. A symbol of resistance and the unyielding spirit of the Palestinian people. A dramatic figure who, because of the horrific reality in which her nation is trapped – in the midst of the world’s largest concentration camp – lives on forever, like a Palestinian Mother Courage.
