Up and Down the Klanec with Tina Vrščaj and Zora A. Jurič

Tina Vrščaj will engage in a discussion with Slovenian scholar, columnist, and reading promoter Zora A. Jurič on various contemporary issues. Their conversation will cover family roles and love relationships, the dynamics of consumer society, and humanity's impact on the environment. Additionally, they will explore humor and the Cankarjan "myth" of Klanec.

Tina Vrščaj is an accomplished writer, literary critic, editor, and translator. Her body of work includes the novels Zataknjena v pomladi (2010), Odradek (2012), and Na Klancu (2022). She authored the children’s fairy tale Plah, plašen, najplašnejši Tapatapata, published in 2017 as part of the renowned Čebelica collection, and the short story collection Plašč, released by Cankarjeva založba in 2018. Vrščaj has translated notable works such as the Nobel Prize-winning novel Jezusovo otroštvo by J.M. Coetzee and the philosophical book Ekonomija želje Daniela Bella ml. Additionally, her children’s book Balabuga! was published by Mladinska knjiga in 2021.

Her novel Na Klancu, which will be a focal point at the 14th International Translation Seminar in Slovenian Literature, has garnered significant recognition. It won the Blue Bird Award, was shortlisted for the 2023 Kresnik Prize, and recently received a special mention from the jury at the European Union Prize for Literature.


The International Translation Seminar 2024 is co-financed by the European Union and the Slovenian Book Agency. The event is locally hosted by the Maribor Youth Cultural Centre. The literary evening is organized in partnership with the Minoriti Cultural Quarter.
