Award-winning Hungarian prose in Slovenian

Duration: 1.5 h
Pranger Translat

The closing evening of the fourth edition of the Pranger Translat festival will take us to visit another great piece of literature, which is a neighbor of Slovenian literature. The discussion will be about two excellent and award-winning Hungarian novels, Vrata by Magda Szabó (eBesede, 2021) and Okraj Sinistra by Ádám Bodor (Modrijan, EUroman, 2008), which would have remained inaccessible to a wider Slovenian readership without the translation efforts of Gabrielle Gaál. Her work was chosen for discussion by the selector of the evening, dr. Jutka Rudaš, and she will be joined on stage by the discussant dr. Mladen Pavičić, with whom they will reflect on translation puzzles and selected approaches based on selected examples from the original and the translation. Melita Forstnerič Hajnšek will be the link between the guests and the audience. We will conclude the evening and thus the festival with delicious Hungarian wine.

Free transport will be available from Ljubljana and Celje. Applications to prevodni.pranger@pranger.si.

Books selected for festival discussions will be available for purchase at an occasional stand.

Tickets for the Interpretive Pranger are available online and at the box office of the Puppet Theater for €5 (for students and pensioners €4). Unemployed persons have free entry with a certificate. We will allocate the proceeds from the sale to translation activities.
