Danica Ozvaldič: Without a Face

No one can be shielded from the traps of life. Perhaps this is the cruellest realization for those who send a new generation off on the adventure of living. The ability to recognize and overcome these dangers develops slowly, like ripening. And with every new technological achievement of humanity, the challenge only grows. The wisdom that comes with age is always chasing after what has already been learned.
And it is always late.

On the occasion of the release of Danica Ozvaldič’s novel Without a Face, we invite you to a literary and musical evening. The author will be in conversation with Darka Tancer-Kajnih, with a musical performance by Dorotea Kopič and a dramatic reading by Minca Lorenci.

The novel Without a Face is based on a harrowing, yet tragically true family story. The author chose to write it in literary form only after time had at least superficially covered the wounds. The scars, however, will remain forever. We read the narrative as if it were the darkest of crime novels, shaking our heads and telling ourselves it simply cannot be true! Sadly, it is. And despite all our digital progress, there is no button to rewind events, no chance to retake the test. What we are left with is the most honest of stories – a warning, a reminder, a caution.

Although passionate about the Slovenian language, Danica Ozvaldič devoted her professional career to banking, where she made a significant impact. She is known as someone who upholds the highest ethical standards in every environment she works in – a principle she applies to her literary work as well. In 2018, she published the poetry collection Light Is the Name of the Poem, marked by purity of expression and a richness of meaning. In 2022, she released her biographical novel Tailoring Silence, a moving story of perseverance, faith in goodness, hope, and connection in a time marked in every way by the war at the crossroads of the Slovenian and German worlds. She lives and creates in Maribor.
