DOKUDOC:

Yugo Goes to America follows four millennial friends from the former Yugoslavia on an absurd and humorous road trip from New York to Los Angeles in a 1980s Yugo — the small socialist car once exported to Reagan-era America, before becoming known as “the worst car in US history.” As they retrace the Yugo’s rise and fall, their playful investigation gradually turns into a more intimate search for meaning and identity by a generation raised between Western pop culture, failed promises and the shadows of a vanished country. Blending archive, sharp humour and surreal performative moments, the film offers a distinctly Balkan outsider’s view of contemporary America, where the Yugo becomes a fragile yet stubborn symbol of absurdity, displacement and the belief that the journey can still matter, even when everything keeps falling apart.
