LEIPZIG YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

The Leipzig Youth Symphony Orchestra (LYSO) is the premier ensemble of the Leipzig Music School, bringing together the region’s most talented young musicians for more than 40 years. With over 80 members aged between 14 and 20, the orchestra performs a diverse repertoire spanning nearly every era of symphonic music, from classical masterpieces to contemporary works.
In addition to symphonic concerts, the orchestra regularly participates in music theatre productions and choral symphony projects in collaboration with other outstanding youth ensembles. Its members are selected from among approximately 8,000 music school students and are guided by experienced teachers and professional musicians from partner orchestras.
The orchestra performs regularly at some of Leipzig’s most prestigious venues, including the Gewandhaus Leipzig, St. Thomas Church, and Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig. A highlight of its annual programme is its international concert tours, which have taken the young musicians across Europe and around the world. Previous destinations include Japan, Israel, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, the United States, Canada, and Ethiopia.
