Lent Festival: Ibrica Jusić

Recognizable vocals, guitar and his loyal canine companion on stage with him - who doesn't know Ibrica Jusić? He established himself as a guitarist and singer-songwriter already in 1968 at the festival in Zagreb. He upgraded the tradition of French chansons with his authentic author's expression, which is distinguished by poeticity and intellect, as well as composing to the texts of famous poets. For decades, Jusić was a trademark of the Dubrovnik Summer Games, at which he regularly appeared as the organizer of evening concerts on the rocks, and he also prepared solo guitar recitals in the Duke's Palaces.
He released his first album in 1975, with his early hits Cat, Dobro jutro, Margaret, Apparently in Love your daughter's dream He also became famous on the Yugoslav recording scene. His musical settings of verses by Shakespeare, Brecht, Paljetek, Antić, Britvić and others also became popular. The turning point in his work is represented by the first symphony album Iberian (1981), orchestrated by his older brother Đelo Jusić. Đelo also wrote many anthology songs for Ibrica, such as Shalom Sarah, Anyway, I love you, On Stradun and others. His expression combines French chanson, Italian canzone and Bosnian sevdalinka. The project From Shakespeare to sevdah best summarizes its thematic breadth.
