Lent Festival: Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog
United States of America

Marc Ribot is one of the most original, most respected, most sought-after and – we're not exaggerating at all – one of the best guitarists of our time! Anyone who remembers how the stage shook at Lent in 2012 during his performance with the band Los Cubanos Postizos knows that this time's performance with the band Ceramic Dog is not to be missed!
For 40 years, Marc Ribot has been credited with making the electric guitar sound "dirty" in American music, as befits an electric guitar. But what would Tom Waits sound like if Marc Ribot hadn't played his guitar (from the Rain Dogs album onwards)? The list of musicians who have wanted his distinctive style on their albums is virtually endless: Elton John, Solomon Burke, Robert Plant, Keith Richards, Chuck Berry, Wilson Pickett, Lounge Lizards, Marianne Faithfull, Medeski Martin & Wood, Caetano Veloso, Norah Jones, The Black Keys, McCoy Tyner, Alison Krauss and the list goes on. Ribot, of course, regularly collaborates with and is a key influence on the sound of John Zorn's various bands.
And yet Marc Ribot's career is marked by modesty and restraint. Only now, on his 70th birthday, has he been met with universal recognition; fame, if you will. In 2024, the mighty Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg hosted all of his key bands of the last 30 years in a multi-day program, and in 2025 he released the album Map of a Blue City, which presents him in a completely new light – not only as an instrumentalist, but also as a singer and songwriter of contemporary protest poetry. The album was listed among the albums of the year in numerous media outlets.
But what happens in Ceramic Dog truly exceeds all expectations! For more than a decade, this adrenaline-fueled turbo band has been his constant, in which all three musicians from the first to the last moment enter a whirlpool of boiling energy and passionate enthusiasm with a punk-rock attitude, "burning" every second of their performance. Marc Ribot at his best - unforgettable!
