Rok Zalokar

Rok Zalokar is a versatile pianist, composer, and producer from Ljubljana. After years of studying and living in Rotterdam and Copenhagen, he has become an important figure on the Slovenian (post)-jazz scene. He leads the collective Zhlehtet and a piano trio, while simultaneously developing a distinctive solo expression on piano, organ, and electronics.
In his work, he brings together diverse elements such as layers of minimalist patterns, jazz harmony, blues riffs, impressionistic motifs, and beat aesthetics. Above all, through his musical storytelling, he strives to transcend the duality of past and future. He is among the pianists who did not bypass the revolution of electronic music; rather, it directly inspires his approach to the acoustic instrument.
Alongside composing and crafting melodies, he is devoted to the spontaneous playing style of pianist-composers such as Keith Jarrett, Terry Riley, Nils Frahm, Cecil Taylor, and others.
Over the past ten years, Zalokar has released twenty albums of original music as a bandleader, published by labels including RTV ZKP, Celinka, ZARŠ, Kamizdat, Nature Scene Records, and Modigo. In addition to performing regularly at festivals in Slovenia and abroad, he is the recipient of the Jazzon Award for Best Composition and Performance, as well as the international Erasmus Jazz Prize.
His work is regularly featured and reviewed in Slovenian media outlets such as Radio ARS, Radio Študent, the weekly Mladina, and the platform Odzven, while also receiving attention in prominent international publications including The Wire, The Quietus, Jazz Weekly, The Aquarian, and Jazz Views, among others. His latest album was selected as Album of the Year by Radio Študent and ranked among the best jazz releases on Bandcamp.

International Piano Day 2026
International Piano Day is celebrated on the 88th day of the year, a tribute to the 88 keys of a standard piano. Nils Frahm, the German pianist, composer, and initiator of the project, explained his idea with the words:
“It doesn’t hurt to celebrate the piano and everything connected to it — performers, composers, piano makers, tuners, concert organizers, the entire community of pianists — and, most importantly, the listeners.”
Expect an exceptionally intimate piano event. A unique concert experience that draws the listener closer — to themselves, to the music, to the present moment. No amplification, no distance. Music within reach. And the silence between the notes.
Intimacy. Silence. Presence.
