Opening of the FeFi Feminist Film Festival and Premiere of Fantasy

You are invited to the opening of the feminist film festival FeFi, taking place this year from April 11–19.

We will kick off on Saturday, April 11, with the Maribor premiere of the feature film Fantasy at the Maribor Puppet Theatre. Following the screening, there will be a conversation with the director, Kukla. Additional screenings will take place at Intimni Kino GT22 on April 17 and 18, 2026, at 8:00 PM.

Sina, Mihrije, and Jasna are best friends in their early twenties. Their boyish lifestyle often brings them into conflict with the neighborhood boys, who see them as a threat. A young transgender woman named Fantasy catches their attention. Gradually, Fantasy captivates the girls, and their paths begin to diverge.

Despite her strong stance against romantic relationships, Sina becomes involved in a love affair. Jasna, who lives with her dissatisfied mother, decides to take a job on a cruise ship in France. Mihrije flees with Fantasy to Macedonia to avoid an arranged marriage, and her feelings for Fantasy grow stronger.

Upon returning to Slovenia, the girls realize they have grown apart and no longer understand each other. On the way home, Mihrije stops by Fantasy’s apartment, only to find that she has disappeared. Sina, Mihrije, and Jasna each take their first steps into adult life, in their own way, far from the destinies that were expected of them.

FeFi – Slovenian First Feminist Film Festival

Welcome to the fifth edition of FeFi, Slovenian First Feminist Film Festival where gaze is shifting and women’s stories and female creators are in the centre. FeFi is named after Genovefa or tribal woman, a patroness of candle makers, shepherds, milliners and gardeners, but also protectress of eyesight. FeFi is watching. FeFi can see.
The all-seeing eye of FeFi highlights the invisible, subjugated, marginalized, but tough and rough stories that change the course of history.

FeFi will lead into past, present and future of women’s cinematic work where rules are self-made and roads are unpaved. “FeFi Fresh” calls attention to international radical newcomers, who defy the “good ol’ ways” of patriarchal filmmaking. “FeFi Now!” is in the moment of Slovenian filmmaking, while “FeFi Retro” spotlights past works, invisible or unseen but not forgotten.
